This month's newsletter is dedicated to the menehunes, fairies, and all of Nature's angels...with appreciation to my friend Jim, who encouraged me to communicate with them and hear their special messages and to Doreen Virtue for her Healing with the Fairies book and oracle cards.

The fairies help us lighten up so we can have more fun. They teach us to manifest what we want and enlist our assistance in helping everyone on the planet. Fairies are the nature angels who help us heal, find happiness, enjoy happy relationships, and make the world a better place.

Wow! Did you feel the summer arrive with full intensity on the solstice, new moon and eclipse, all on June 21st? Being sensitive to Nature's rhythms and cycles myself, this summer signals to me a time for full out self expression in every way. Not a time to hold back--a time to say what is true for us and acknowledge our heart's truest desires and express our passion! Anything keeping us from doing that will be cleared away with lightning speed. Not always comfortable, I have learned to trust these cycles (because I always trust Mother Nature) and keep the faith that all is in perfect order.

While visiting Kauai during this time I found myself reeling from the summer heat (metaphorically and literally). While browsing through a bookstore I chanced upon the Healing with the Fairies oracle cards by Doreen Virtue, a beautiful woman I had met on a dolphin swim while here in Hawaii last year. Since I ask the fairies of the various elements of Nature to be with me during my painting sessions, I had a feeling these cards would further connect me to their inspirational guidance. It was true. I have been enjoying them ever since and thought you might enjoy some of their light hearted insights too.

The summer is a perfect time to experience breaking free from our usual routines, detoxify and take a vacation. Those were the fairy cards that I kept drawing while on break on Kauai. On Kauai they believe the menehunes were little people with supernatural powers who engineered much of the building of bridges and canals on that island. Kauai is all about water, whereas our island is about lava and fire. Kauai is one of the first islands to be free of volcanic activity since the time of it's origins. It is called the Garden Island because of all the rain that creates full waterfalls, taro fields, rivers, and incredible gardens of lush exotic tropical plants.

3. Creative Tip of the month: Let yourself play and lighten up

This month I thought I would share an experience I had with Pan, one of my Nature guides that I ask to assist me during my painting sessions. In the beginning I didn't know much about his archetype, except that he was playful and musical, a Peter Pan type character. A friend of mine suggested that I invite him to be with me during my creative sessions.

I was preparing to paint my first cape for myself to wear to a special event in California. I was using colors from my own personal color palette so that it would be just right for me. With great excitement, I had the white silk all stretched and ready to paint. My color palette was laid out in front of me. I was CAREFULLY and with great CONTROL mixing the colors and feeling that it was very important that this cape be just right.

Suddenly, my arm seemed to have a mind of it's own and it swiped across my table hitting my paint tray and all the dyes literally jumped, like in a cartoon, from one pan to another mixing with each other!! I was horrified! After all my careful mixing what would I do now? Remembering I had invited Pan to paint with me I laughed and began to test the newly mixed colors on a piece of silk. And a-ha! Much to my surprise and delight, each color was a perfect match to the ones in my color palette! So, thanks to Pan, the playful trickster fairy, I lightened up and had a grand time painting my first cape.

Perhaps you will invite Pan, menehunes or other Fairies to play with you when you are creating, whether it be while cooking, cleaning, writing, walking, singing, shopping or getting dressed. And then, please let us hear from you about your experience.

4. Sound Tip of the Month, July 2001

Our SOUND exercise for this month will honor the elements and your connection with them. These chants from Chants to the Elements by Tom Kenyon, may be done any time of the year. They are best done outside, however it is still powerful wherever they are done. Allow yourself to relax and find that place in your heart center. You are going to be sending love and gratitude to each of the elements. You will chant the sound, while holding the vision of the element in your heart, honoring it with your love. There are two parts. The first part is to the elements outside ourselves and the second part is to the elements inside our body. When this chant is done for a long period of time the two aspects merge. The inside and outside become one. It is a profound and delicious experience. Here is the chant…EL…KA…LEEM…OM EL…honors the earth and our bones KA…honors the sun/fire and the solar plexus/metabolism/fire…LEEM…honors the oceans/water and the blood and all body fluids…OM…honors air/space and the lungs/breath. Remember to focus on your heart for each aspect as you chant. Keep repeating the chant, first honoring the outside elements then chant focusing within. May you be blessed and embraced by Mother Earth.
